This is a walking tour, where the guide will share insights into the history of Oamaru.
In the early 1880's both Oamaru and Los Angeles had populations around 5,000 people and both towns were growing strong.
Note: This was the era of the "Wild West" in America. (The gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place in 1881)
Why did this colonial town build such grand buildings in the Neo-Classical style? One early visitor to the town commented that it seemed "a temple had strayed from Athens" !
